5 Must-Haves for Postpartum Recovery
1. Underwear & Maternity Pads
No postpartum recovery list is complete without lots of big comfortable pants and heavy-flow maternity pads. Whilst they might feel slightly strange at first, it’s the best way to keep yourself clean and comfortable.
2. Nursing Pads
Nursing pads will be needed for the first few weeks at least, to keep you feeling confident and keep your clothes dry, as your breasts will likely leak. You can either buy disposable or reusable pads. The reusable fabric breast pads are soft and comfortable to use.
4. Sitz Bath
A sitz bath is a warm, shallow bath which you sit in to help increase the blood flow to your perineal region (the delicate portion of skin down below). It provides relief and healing for postpartum recovery. Warm water alone works perfectly, so there’s no need to add anything fancy into your bath. Only add salt or other substances to your sitz bath as directed by a healthcare professional.

3. Nipple Cream
Nipple cream is designed to soothe and protect your nipples whilst they adjust to breastfeeding. Most nipple creams are tasteless and are completely harmless for your little one to ingest.
5. Witch Hazel Pads
Witch hazel pads are an effective tool to decrease infection and promote healing after giving birth. They are placed on the lining of your underwear, just like a sanitary pad, and they have a cooling effect, helping to soothe and comfort you after birth.
